Janus Vol.7 No.12 is notable because it contains six unique colour prints which the editor dated tentatively about 1780, but which illustrate corporal punishment scenes from much earlier times.

They go from the fifteenth century (Une verge pour l’autre) through Tudor, Stuart (Théroigne de Merincourt) and early eighteenth century (La Dame de Liancourt) to the middle eighteenth century in the charming pair of pictures of the gentleman turning the tables on his tormentors in Les Représailles.
